About Cypress Essential Oil

Cypress essential oil is steam-distilled from the fresh needles, twigs, and small cones of Cupressus sempervirens, the slender evergreen that lines roads and gardens across the Mediterranean. The trees have symbolized endurance since classical times.

Is this the same as blue cypress oil? ▾
No. This oil comes from Cupressus sempervirens, the Mediterranean species, while blue cypress is drawn from an unrelated Australian tree with a deep blue color and a distinct scent profile. The two aren't interchangeable in a formula.
Does cypress oil work in a cold-air diffuser as well as a heat diffuser? ▾
Yes. Cypress's resinous, smoky-green profile carries well in both cold-air and heat diffusers, though cold-air diffusion preserves more of its fresher, pine-like top notes. Heat diffusion tends to bring out its deeper, woodier base over time, which some blenders prefer for evening use.
